Roberta Guarna. Nacida en Florencia, Italia. Desde su niñez, estudió y se educó en los mejores institutos para mujeres de su ciudad natal. Más tarde, ocupó puestos importantes durante más de 20 años en la Universidad. Sin embargo, el camino de su vida fue doloroso y difícil, y en estas circunstancias, siempre encontró consuelo en la Fe y el Arte en todas sus formas de expresión. A lo largo de los años ha asistido a numerosos talleres artísticos y creativos para aprender diferentes técnicas hasta que realizó el laboratorio de «Arte e Identidad», donde descubrió el collage. Desde entonces, se expresa en particular a través de collages analógicos integrándolos con las más variadas técnicas artísticas.
¿Cuándo y por qué comienzas a utilizar el collage en tus obras?
Desde que era pequeña, siempre he tenido una gran pasión por el papel y por su perfume. Empecé a hacer collage hace dos años, después de haber asistido a un largo taller llamado «Arte e identidad», impartido por la artista de renombre internacional Agnese Purgatorio y con ella aprendí, de hecho, la técnica del collage artístico.
¿Cómo es tu proceso creativo? ¿Utilizas otras técnicas?
Mis collages nunca nacen casualmente, siempre son el resultado de una idea precisa, un sentimiento, una emoción, un proyecto. No suelo usar directamente los recortes de periódicos. Los recortes, de hecho, solo se recogen, seleccionan, cortan, catalogan y almacenan. Cuando necesito un recorte, normalmente lo transfiero a papel de mejor calidad y, a veces, modifico las imágenes. Colecciono las imágenes de los periódicos, de internet y en las librerías antiguas. También uso fotografías personales del pasado o lo que estoy filmando en el presente. Me encanta integrar mi trabajo con otras técnicas aprendidas en el transcurso de mi vida como: transferencia de imágenes, pan de oro, pan de plata, pintura, etc. y junto con el papel me gusta usar diferentes materiales, dependiendo de las necesidades e inspiración del momento.
¿Qué te aporta el collage que no haga otro tipo herramienta?
El collage me da la libertad de ser yo misma, me permite decir lo que quiero y luchar en mis batallas. Me ayuda a hacer que otros entiendan que detrás de una mujer hay un alma que quizás es posible apreciar y amar. El collage dio un sentido y un punto de inflexión en mi vida.
¿Cuáles son tus referentes?
Mis referentes, en primer lugar, son mis padres, de quienes aprendí mucho. También sufro la influencia del movimiento dadaísta de Berlín y la gran, y valiente artista, Annah Hoch. Amo a las personas valientes. Incluso otras figuras artísticas me inspiran y me han influenciado, y siguen haciéndolo. Me gusta Francis Picabia, Marc Chagall, mi favorito. En fotografía: Vivian Maier, Francesca Woodman, Robert Doisneau, Sebastião Salgado, Masao Yamamoto. La literatura y la poesía también influyen mucho en mi trabajo. Me gusta la literatura rusa y mi escritor favorito es Fiodor Dostoevskij.
¿Qué temas suelen aparecer en tus obras? ¿Qué te inspira?
Mi trabajo nunca es abstracto y sin significado. A menudo autobiográfico, está dirigido a la parte de la sociedad que está marginada, invisible y frágil. Entre los temas discutidos, los principales son: Memoria, destinada a ser memoria, Injusticia, Libertad, Sociedad, Cambio y, en particular, la mujer comprometida a buscar el reconocimiento de su valor frente a múltiples dificultades y prejuicios.
¿Tienes proyectos/colaboraciones cercanos? ¿Futuras exposiciones?
Respecto a futuros proyectos y exposiciones, he participado en varios concursos en este último período y estoy esperando conocer los resultados. Pronto presentaré una solicitud para la Bienal Internacional de Mujeres que tendrá lugar en marzo de 2019 en Italia.

Roberta Guarna. Born in Florence, Italy. Since childhood, she have studied and have been educated in the best women’s education Institutes in her hometown. Later, she held important positions for more than 20 years at the University. The path of her life was however painful and difficult, and in these circumstances, she always found comfort in the Faith and the Art in every form of expression. Over the years she have attended numerous artistic and creative workshops in order to learn the most varied techniques until determining the laboratory of «Art and Identity», where she learned the technique of artistic Collage. Since then, she expresses yourself in particular through analogue collages integrating them with the most varied artistic techniques.
When and why do you start using collage in your works?
Since I was a child, I have always had a great passion for the paper and for its perfume. I started making collage about two years ago, after having attended a long workshop called «Art and Identity» conducted by the internationally renowned artist Agnese Purgatorio and with her I learned, in fact, the technique of artistic Collage.
How is your creative process? Do you use other techniques?
My Collages are never born casually but are always the result of a precise idea, a feeling, an emotion, a project. Hardly use directly the newspaper clippings. The clippings, in fact, are only collected, selected, cut out, cataloged and stored. When, then, I need a clipping, I normally transfer it to better quality paper and sometimes I modify the images. I collect the images from the newspapers, from internet and in antique bookshops. I also use personal photographs of the past or what I’m shooting in the present. I love to integrate my work with other techniques learned over time during the course of my life such as: image transfer, gold leaf, silver leaf, painting, etc. and together with the paper I like use different materials, it’s depends on the needs and inspiration of the moment.
What does the collage give you that does not make another type of tool?
The Collage gives me the freedom to be myself, allows me to say what I want and to fight my battles. It helps me to make others understand that behind a woman there is a soul that perhaps it is possible to appreciate and to love. The collage gave a sense and a turning point in my life.
Who are your references?
My references, first of all, are my parents from whom I learned so much. certainly I suffer the influence of the Dadaist movement of Berlin and the great and courageous Artist Annah Hoch. I love the courageous people. Even other artistic figures inspire me and have influenced me, and continue to do. I like Francis Picabia, Marc Chagall my favorite. For the photography: Vivian Maier, Francesca Woodman, Robert Doisneau, Sebastião Salgado, Masao Yamamoto. Literature and Poetry also influence my work a lot. I love Russian literature and my favorite writer is Fiodor Dostoevskij.
What themes usually appear in your works? What inspires you?
My work is never abstract and without meaning. Often autobiographical, it is aimed at that part of society that is marginalized, invisible and fragile. Among the topics discussed, the main ones are: Memory, intended as a memory, Injustice, Freedom, Society, Change and, in particular, the woman committed to pursuing the recognition of its value against multiple difficulties and prejudices.
Do you have projects / collaborations nearby? Future exhibitions?
Regarding future projects and exhibitions I can say that I have participated in several competitions in this last period and I am waiting to know the results. Soon I will apply for the International Women’s Biennial which will take place in March 2019, in Italy.
